Whenever we go to the gas station to fill up our vehicle, we have several grades of fuel to choose from. We will typically go with the basic unleaded kind because it is usually the cheapest and many auto manufacturers recommend it. But what about the other kinds of fuel? What do they do and are there any benefits to using them? Read on to find out!<\/p>\n

\"GasRegular Unleaded Gasoline<\/h3>\n

Like we said, this is the usual pick because it is the cheapest and most manufacturers recommend it (check your owner\u2019s manual or fuel tank cap to verify). Regular unleaded gasoline typically has an Octane Level of 87, which makes it very flammable.<\/p>\n

Super Unleaded\/Premium Gasoline<\/h3>\n

When you are at the pump, you will have a couple of other options that may be listed as Super Unleaded or Premium. These fuels have has been refined a little more and boast a higher Octane level that is usually around 95. This means that they could burn a little cleaner. Some vehicles attain a higher horsepower when Super Unleaded\/Premium gas is used.<\/p>\n

Diesel<\/h3>\n

This type of fuel should only be used with diesel-powered engines. We will typically see diesel engine options with pickup trucks. Diesel fuel has a reputation for burning a little cleaner, offering better fuel efficiency, and can oftentimes greatly increase the towing power.<\/p>\n

E85\/Flex Fuel<\/h3>\n

This type of fuel is made from 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline, though there may be slight variations. E85 is an option for when you would prefer to not depend on fossil fuels. However, overall power and fuel economy with E85 has been and continues to be debated. Before using E85, check your owner\u2019s manual or fuel tank cap to ensure compatibility.<\/p>\n
